| John Acorn, former chair of the Clemson University Department of Art, is featured in this interesting exhibit which highlights scultpure torn from the headlines of our newspapers, NPR and TV news. "I am not trying to be a messenger; I am just using everyday information" is his explanation. John makes sculpture that mirrors our culture. He sees his works as "visually appealing with something under the surface." Lee Gallery is filled with John's most recent works crafted from wood or steel. He utilizes his collection of found objects to pose interesting questions about our culture. He does not hand us answers but "likes viewer to find something else." This interesting exhibit began on January 7 and will continue until Feb. 1, 2008. Gallery Talk with John will be held on Friday, January 25, at 4 pm. A reception hosted by the Friends of the Center for Visual Arts will follow from 5-7 p.m. |

| Doomed to haunt an old abandoned performance hall, the only way out for the five ghosts who haunt the building is through the "Stage Door", which unfortunately goes in only one direction - down...unless they can "do something good for someone else" in order to redeem their past lives. Enter the Quabbin Memorial Community Players who have recently been displaced from their home and looking to inhabit the old performance hall. With a busted fundraiser, the theatre group is at loss for how to afford their next production so enters the ghosts to do their "good deed" and make it through the Stage Door --next stop, Heaven. | During WWII, six women gather at the church to roll bandages for the Red Cross and plan the church's 75th anniversary. There's Edith, the pastor's wise-cracking wife; Luby, whose son is fighting in the Pacific; Mae Ellen, the church's rebellious organist; Olene, who dreams of a career in Hollywood; Sammy, a shy newcomer with a secret; and Vera, an influential Baptist with a secret of her own. In Act 2, twenty-five years later, these women reunite again at the church with revelations that shake relationships formed over a quarter of a century. With humor and pathos, these six very different women find comfort, forgiveness and redemption in each other. "This play will be compared to Steel Magnolias, but forget steel; these mountain magnolias are pure gold with humor, drama, warmth and six of the most wonderful charaters you'll ever see" says the Bristol Herald-Courier. With all due credit to the pilots, experiences in the cabin are by far the most interesting. This is the world of the passengers -- from every walk of life -- and the flight attendants who serve their needs, allay their fears, and ultimately are responsible for their safety in time of emergency. Brenda Harman started her career at Delta Airlines in 1977.
